The latest story is that these were made in the 1960s. The boxes were gift boxes by the company Eduscho, with coffee in it. According to this story, they have been around the pickelhaube world for 40 years and can be easily spotted by flipping one over and seeing that the connectors have no posts or solder. Apparently folks have tried to put these on many types of helmets but today, the gift boxes only come with plastic wappen.
