Is there any chance that this is real?

It looks like the chinstrap is reproduction. The date appears to be 1917 but all of the fittings are brass. Wouldn't they have switched to gray metal in 1915? Also 1917 seems a little too late to see this type of helmet.

That's what I thought. The only tin Tschapka that I have ever seen was on this forum and it had a rolled edge, not trim. It is very, very unfortunate that most of the older photos are gone. I used this forum as my main research site, and now, not so much. I often see a helmet, sword, Schirmmutze, or uniform and think, "I saw one of those on the forum, I'll see if I can find the post and compare it!" Photobucket really did us a phenomenal disservice!
