Toasting Cup - 7th Westphalian Dragoons

I purchased this piece from a collector friend years ago. It has sat on a book shelf pretty much neglected for years.

This week I took it down and gave it a polish with Maas polish. My friend had written a note explaining what it was with the intention of putting it on eBay which he never got time enough to do.

He noted that this is a Wedding Toasting Cup that belonged to a Herr Hans Wesener who was a member of the 7th Westphalian Dragoons. It's a an interesting piece of .800 silver, serial numbered and produced by the Wilhelm Binder firm of Gmund. His monogram appears on the reverse of the cup.

I assume S/l refers to a cavalry rank although what that rank might be I don't know.

If anyone here is a 7th Westphalian Dragoon collector I'd be interested in knowing something about Herr Wesener.

The s/l I believe indicates that it was a gift. Maybe something like to/from. You see that engraved on a lot of presentation/gift swords.

s/l means in German "seinem Lieben". You see it often on silver presents- military or others.

Best wishes
