Trying to figure out how much my 1916 Damaschke is worth

I have a 1916 Damaschke Pickelhaube passed down through my family. I am looking to sell it but I don't know how much It is worth in its condition. It also seems like theres very limited information about this particular model of helmet. Does anybody know more about its worth? Or maybe can point me towards someone who would? Any help is really appreciated. Thanks

Hello,

Welcome to the forum, and thanks for posting your Jaeger zu Pferde enlisted pattern wartime helmet. Jaeger zu Pferde were mounted riflemen.

Does your helmet have a complete leather liner it it, undamaged, free of red-rot or dry rot? If so, that adds to the value of your helmet.

We'll be better able to advise you on a value if we can see a photo of the interior leather liner. There will be members here who will be interested in purchasing it.

Best Regards,

Alan

Hey,

Thanks for the quick reply. Im attaching higher quality photos now of the interior and everything else. The leather is definitely battered but the overall shell of the helmet is in very good condition in my opinion, but thats why I came to the experts because my opinion isn't very educated.

Welcome Aden. We need one more photo to show the condition of the leather liner. The pic you added shows the maker mark but step back and take a shot showing the entire liner. Condition is everything in the world of antiques so before we estimate value we need to have a look at that liner. There is also probably a size stamped on the inner edge of the lobster tail eg. 57, which tells us the size is 57 cm. Collectors like to know that as well.

Thanks for the advice. Here they are. It may be hard to read the size stamp but It says 55.

Your $1000 starting price on Ebay might be a little high as you don't have cockades or a chinstrap but who knows...

Just so you have a reference, Alan sold a very nice complete one not too long ago for $1250.

Yeah I know its not worth a $1000 starting price. I chose the prices optimistically to test the waters. But as you said, who knows...

Thanks for the extra pics....so a decent liner with some staining, a couple of torn fingers and a size 55 cm.. Frequently the liners are gone, rotted or torn up so this is a good thing. I would echo the comment about your starting price though. Good luck.

I appreciate all of your help. With that in mind about the price, Im open to any offers from people on the forum too if anybody is interested.

I'm just adding this comment as an interesting side note. You can tell that this is a Damaschke JzP helmet because of the excessive lobster tail "flip". To my knowledge no other JzP manufacturer used such a notable flip. Here is a comparison photo showing the lobster tail of a C.E. Juncker and a Damaschke. The tails are substantially different.

Personally I don't think $1000.00 is terribly excessive as a starting price.

John

I should clarify, my comment on price was concerned with starting the auction at $1K.
