Here's my Tschako M71-99 for Off. Hannoverisches Jäger Batl. Nr. 10.
It came with it's original storagecase and a card from the original owner...
When you come near it, you get the urge to grab a pack of menthos...

Funny, when my wife and I were together, she discovered a folder named "my porn" on the computer, and all that was in it were photos of Karel's helmets......

Bad enough it is JB10, but 100% mercury gilding? That is quite possibly the finest Tschako I have ever seen. Wow. :-s

congratulation , very nice

interesting to notice , on portrait , its written 23 on the shouderbard instead of 10 , at my knowledge jager bat was numbered from 1 to 14 + prussian guard, 2 saxonian and 2 bavarian

It's Nr. 20... from 20th Division. I've to admit that this also troubled my mind at first, but I looked it up at Wikipedia and the following is the result:

On mobilization in August 1914, most divisional cavalry, including brigade headquarters, was withdrawn to form cavalry divisions or split up among divisions as reconnaissance units. Divisions received engineer companies and other support units from their higher headquarters. The 20th Division was again renamed the 20th Infantry Division and its initial wartime organization was as follows:[9]

39. Infanterie-Brigade
Infanterie-Regiment von Voigts-Rhetz (3. Hannoversches) Nr. 79
4. Hannoversches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 164
Hannoversches Jäger-Bataillon Nr. 10
40.Infanterie-Brigade
2. Hannoversches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 77
Braunschweigisches Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 92
Stab und "1/2"-Regiment/Braunschweigisches Husaren-Regiment Nr. 17
20. Feldartillerie-Brigade
Feldartillerie-Regiment von Scharnhorst (1. Hannoversches) Nr. 10
Niedersächsisches Feldartillerie-Regiment Nr. 46
2.Kompanie/Hannoversches Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 10
3.Kompanie/Hannoversches Pionier-Bataillon Nr. 10

On another forum this explanation was questioned, but I can see this as the only logical possibility... Maybe our experts can figure this out?

Karel,

Wonderful picture! Though it is very hard to tell I think it is 23. The reason for the shoulder strap is that reserve jäger Battalion was created from the Ersatz Abtig. Jg. Btl 10 in Goslar. RID51

rjb20 came from JB7

Because of the mismatch of the picture and the helmet I am willing to take both of those off of your hands for a small price. I know you cannot thank me enough but I would be willing to house these artifacts so that you do not have the embarrassment of trying to explain it. Yes you're welcome!

Joe,
I think this one is going to stay for a long time :laughing6: ... The card came together with the Tschako and the storage case, but I'm not a good historian I'm affraid  ... For me the Tschako is more important than the history of the original wearer...
Anyway, I'll bear the embarrassment of trying to explain it  and just stick to the Tschako's, Pickelhaubes, Tschapka's, steel helmets and all the other hardware 8) ... and then I'll listen very carefully to what you knowledgeable guys tell about the history :notworthy: ...
It is also better to keep it in my collection, because the cost of sending it to you would be extremely high :banghead:

Yes that would be true however, as your friend, I would be willing to pay for postage and you would not have to pay me very much to take these items. While it's something to think about–Christmas is coming–hint hint. :santa: :santa: :santa:

Holy..... cow! What a wonderful helmet! Congrats and I know it's found a good home. (Just think... the family could have given it to the local theater gild.) :-?

At any rate, all you have to do for nay-sayers is point to the photo, and say YOU explain it.

I see no mention that RJB23 was allowed to wear the JB10 Tschako, but he probably transfered from JB10 to RJB23 and continued to wear his Tschako. or at least, for the photo.

I run into this all the time with photos of men wearing IR92 Braunschweig Totenkopf on their caps, but the straps are to a high-numbered RIR (over182) that were not entitled to wear it. The only logical explanation, is that they were allowed to if they came from IR92.

I see two probabilities–both of them have the officers starting in JB 10.

He got to RJB 23 as the unit was formed.
He got to a reserve battalion upon appointment from JB 10 similar to this picture of a guy in RJR 15. ( unit history)

I guess we will never know for sure :( ... But I think it's possible that he was transferred, but allowed to wear his Tschako from JB 10...
I remember my time in the army (late 70's); while we were an infanterie regt. there was a guy who was transferred from the para's to our regt., but he was allowed to wear his insignes and baret from the para's  ...

(Just think... the family could have given it to the local theater gild.)
This gives me a really good idea... starting a theater somewhere in Germany :P ... Excellent!
