Hello,
Have had this cover for about 20 years. I was wondering if it is an original, or not?
Thanks for looking

That is good news. I was not sure it was a good one. I have not seen that type of hook on any of the covers on the forum and that made me wonder. It came with the 1915 pattern, 1916 dated, Prussian Pickelhaube it is seen pictured on, and did come from a good source. It is good to hear that it is probably an original.

Hi Brian,
Thanks for your thoughts. Good to know it's not a clanger! When I bought the Haube I was spending all my time looking at the mounts and liner etc. to make sure they were original and in fairly good condition. The cover was just a wee bounce, I don't think I paid it that much attention. The helmet was roughly the same price as others that I was looking at in different stores at the time and there was no mark up for it having a cover so if it had been a copy I would not have felt cheated. It was the first Pickelhaube that I bought. I had always wanted one, but this was the first time I had been in a position to buy one.
I may post photos of the rest of the helmet later. It is a M1915, 1916 dated Prussian Infantry one.

Just keep in mind that the cover and the helmet might not have been together originally. I don't know in this case but I have often found that married together later. Still all original.

Hello.

Sorry but I don't like it. New from new, too new...

The tissue frame and sewn don't look old. Can you look it with a "black light" spot?

Best regards

Hello,
I have never tried any sort of light test on it. I will look into this and see what happens. The cover is still at my father's house, so it maybe sometime before I get a chance to try.
I bought the helmet and cover in 1992, I found it in my records book of purchases. I take your point that the cover may not be original to the helmet. Sadly the helmet does not have any unit stamps on it.
Thank you all for your thoughts,
Alba
