Uh, Liberty Loan Helmet?

You know how it is believed that most helmets with the spike support ring / disk mounted outside of the helmet directly under the spike are liberty bond helmets?

It looks like the disc was once mounted inside because the leather shows a brighter spot there as if it has been covered. My guess would be that the helmet was reassembled in wrong order.
