I did NOT remove the front plate as it has been together since the 1960's
It looks like to me that the plate is one-piece construction.
I would not expect plates to have soldered banners added on
on pre war yes they were added on to some plates
I would yield to other collectors who have more Feldgrau helmets than I do
The plate is iron
