Been a long time, but I found this 'gem' and have not a clue as to its origin or history. Figured with all of the expertise that exists on the p-haubes.com forum there might be a chance someone would recognize it.

I believe the 'top knot' and star may be later additions. Note theIMHO unique splint weave in the headband.

Also looks like it has had a rough life and many repairs.

The kepi and colour remind me of a Confederate cap from the US Civil War.

Russian is possible. I was thinking maybe South American. The kepi was worn everywhere for a long time.
