Unusual little spike base

This was bought online in the hope it was for a Dragoner - it wasn't. The size of the crossbase is vastly too small to be a Dragoner of any persuasion with three legs 5.5cm long and the front leg at 4.5cm (measuring from the outer circumference of the spike tube). It also has six vent holes and an EM Perlring from a pre M95 timeframe. Even though it is not in the best condition I spent an evening consulting M. Larcade and found nothing to help me identify this 'miniature' so would be grateful for any ideas on just what it is?

The cross-shaped base bears a strong resemblance to the Hessian base. The ventilation shaft appears to be for artillery: FAR25 ?

At the Hessian 25FAR, Perlring was sometimes seen among artillerymen, but also among officers, contrary to the Hessian regulatory theory.

Thanks Clovis, I got the artillery part right at least but it was the regulation against the perlring that made me discount Hesse as a possibility. Also the six vents still puzzle me, perhaps a distinction by a particular manufacturer?

You mention 6 vents, but I only see 4... one in front of each leg of the cross. You mention 6 vents, but I only see 4... one in front of each leg of the cross. If it's 4 holes, it's an upgrade to M95 (5 holes) from an old M67 point with 2 side holes. (as used by officers).

You had me doubting myself there Clovis. I checked again and there are definitely SIX vents. Never seen this before so I am still scratching my head?

Hello Mouette,
6 vents, are rare, very rare. On the other hand, this is the number of vents on the M87 tips (removal of the Perlring) of the Baden LGR109. They will return to 5 in 1895.
Here is my LGR109 M87 modified M91 (post side), the tip has 6 vents.


Then we have 8 ‘regulatory’ vents on the peaks for the B.O.A.




And we also find fancy 8-hole points (AKO April 15, but before the AKO September) in iron, but fixed point, not dislocatable.

This is getting to be a real mystery, six vents "rare", OK, but then on top of that it is definitely Artillery AND it still has the EM perlring - on a cross mount! I'm starting to think I am a magnet for these weird inexplicable components. Is there any way someone in FAR25 or 61 could have ordered this for a private purchase?
I love the LGR109 by the way.

Yes, we can't rule that out, but it could be an explanation. Infra, one Eigentum nickel silver point with 2 holes and one brass point with 4 holes. So why not 6?

I think it's the only plausible answer but doubt there could be any proof. Page 30 of T.Stubbs book shows a page of about 70 different helmet fittings that were available to choose from - a page from an old sales catalogue. Given that some people had a 'loose' idea of sticking to regulations maybe this is the only explanation possible.
