Unusual Pickelhaube?

Hello,

I was driving home from college yesterday and I stopped in this antique store and found a pickelhaube displayed under glass. The insignia on the front of the helmet is not something I recognize, which is what caught my attention. I had the clerk take it out of the glass, and I examined it in hand. From what I could tell it appeared to be all original. It had the wear, musty smell, and feel of an original. I'm pretty sure it is good, but what I'm wondering is what kind of pickelhaube is it? The price tag describes it as an "old german spike helmet", but it looks Prussian to me. The price is 450 USD. Do you guys have any idea what this is and is it something worth picking up? It's about an hour drive from me.

No way !
?....Something like a firebrigade helmet :-? - I even doubt that option...
Some stamps/markings at the inner shell?

Is one of the pictures showing a "Affe" (Monkey)-Rücksack (backpack); made of cowhide ? This might be worth a closer look (on markings/stamps at the inside) !

Thanks for the reply,

I made a huge mistake in not examining the interior closely, so I have no idea if there are any markings. The liner was a little dried out, but it had black leather and it smelled good to me, so I didn't inquire any further.

Does it look more German or Prussian?

The back plate might be a rare Belgian spike helmet plate!
If so, I would be intrested if the plate alone came up for sale!

Stuka: Could you please Identify your excellent pictures? Obviously some Belgian cavalry unit??? Their tunics show a British Victorian influence to me.
 
Of course, sorry I didn't!
They are Garde Civique (Civic Guard) cavalry unit!
The Garde Civique is not to compare to any other country's militia. It was formed in order to control the amalgamation of various militia groups after the independance of Belgium. Not realy a reserve unit and not realy a police unit. It was more like a freetime or week-end volunteers army.
The organisation wasn't national organised, but more local.
Mainly infanterie units , but big city's like Antwerp and Liege also had artillerie units, and some had (light) cavalry units.
They participated in the great mobilisation in the Franco Prussian war, and also at the invasion of Belgium in 1914.
Only a few engaged combat with Germans, as they were mainly used for guarding activity's of prisoners and strategical points.At war time they resorted under the ministry of defence.
The pictures I showed, shows men at the turn of the century.
