UR 13 Hannover - unteroffizier - tschapska

Hi, here's my last purchase from an estate, a dirty but nice NCO Tschapska from the 13 Th ulan regiment. I found it naked, I mean ... without any spare parts but I had a cockade and a pair of chinscales.... I do not plan to clean it and will just try to find the cord and the feldzeichen, it will take time for sure ! That's my second one, I have already a EM bought ... my God, 25 years ago !

Hello Stephane, that's a great find! I think the following Tshapka might be a relative... 8)

Hi all, salut Stéphane,

Very nice find, guy!... and very interesting topic too! First, dear Stéphane, with all my respect, I'm not really sure that your Tschapka is a model for NCO because of the liner and the front plate. These are correct with the EM regulation. Second, I saw with interest the picture sent by Adler because of the typical Garde star for OYF or unterofficier on the eagle plate. But the chinscales and the rosettes are correct for a model for officier.

I bought my UR.13 Tschapka with this special Garde star. The problem was that all the other details were correct with an EM model. So I decided to find a silvered EM Garde star so as to have a correct EM headgear for EM in UR.13. Third, Stéphane's Tschapka is stamped 1914, mine too. Perhaps, the Uhlans who used to wear these helmets, were together during the conflict???

And now...

Happy to see that the UR13 topic has many fans, and allow having a look at other nice and rare tschapskas,
concerning my last purchase, I confirm that's a Unteroffizier private purchase, it's almost the same quality as an enlisted man piece, just slightly nicer, mainly the plate which finish is better (silvered "blanc de Berlin), while EM's are not silvered but plain nickel silver (maillechort in French), other remark that confirms the unter offizier option: the hand written rank + name Unoffz Schwamengel (?). It's Sütterlin but quite readable. Last remark, unteroffizier is some sort of sergeant, that's the first rank in NCOs, while other NCOs as Feldwebel or Vize feldwebel are almost considered as officers. The quality of their headgears can sometimes be close to the quality of Einjahrfreiwillige for instance. Also, to confirm that's a private purchase, the tschapska is not marked excepted for the maker mark + date, no reception mark. I have an EM one which is marked UR 13 and all other EM tschapskas are marked after the regiment.
Last last point, I did not get it on a flee market nor garage sales, but from a family who had inherited a big house full of old stuff... a grand father was a general (French) in WW1, a trophee presented to the general by his officers ?

Hi again, to better explain :) my remark concerning the plate (UnOffz/EM), find here a pic of my EM tschapska plate, that's plain nickel silver (EM) while private purchase (Unoffz) is silver plated ....

as both tschapskas are marked 1914, we can suppose that yes they were together in war.... we just have to find the records of the regiment and check the names, is yours named Maxime ?

Now, I'm really sure that it's a NCO model, nice explanation Stéphane! So, very intersting Tschapka, congratulation!!!
