Here are a few more photos from my recent travels. I was in Venice for a few days, and while the city has really gotten dirty and crowded it remains one of my favorite places to visit.
I stopped in at the Italian Naval Museum, which is a fantastic little museum devoted to the history of the Ventian Empire, the modern Italian Navy (post 1860s) and it even has a floor devoted to the Swedish navy - the latter because the Swedes sent emissaries to study the ships used by the Ventians. To this day the two navies share a common bond.
Here are some 19th century rifles in the museum's collection
Some World War I era machine guns
Post WWI Italian naval sun helmet
One of several Austro-Hungarian naval ensigns captured during World War I. This was the hayday of the Italian navy of course!
Imperial German naval ensign
Some armor in the Doge Palace. This probably was among the best collection of armor I've seen outside of the Musee d'Armee in Paris or the Tower of London.
A classical Ventian helmet from the 16th century
