Very much here to learn. A quick question.

A bit hesitant to post here for fear of looking a bit silly, but I’ve been scrolling the pages of this and other forums to try to learn a few things. I’m very much a firearms collector but have always had an interest in helmets. I’ve got this Pickelhaube but never really looked at it, just had it as a representation piece for some time, but now I’m interested and reading, it is not convincing me that it is correct. Or maybe just been restored with modern parts? I’ll post a few photos and fire away, would just like to know for future reference if I decide I need something more correct. Regards Anthony

Hello Anthony and welcome to the Forum. You don't have to be afraid to post anything here, there are no stupid questions.
But I‘m sorry to say that this is unfortunately not a real pickelhaube, but a modern repro helmet. You can see this by the unclean processing. The stitches, for example, are much too coarse, but the individual parts are also not in good quality too.
However, I hope you don't give up now. It’s not easy to recognize an original helmet, there are so many things you have to look out for. If you want to learn more about the spiked helmet, I recommend Tony's website www.kaisersbunker.com. It is the best website about pickelhaubes with lots of information on what to look out for when reviewing helmets.

Thanks so much. The more I read, the more I knew what I had. At least I can feel more confident in what to look for in the future. It doesn’t owe me a lot, luckily, and looks okay behind the glass for now. Haha. I should stick to the steel helmets and guns. Again, thank you. I will continue to read on this forum and the link you gave me. Regards Anthony

Hi Anthony,
Welcome to the forum.
I agree with Sandy, a modern reproduction. However, somebody made a great effort to “age” the helmet, making it harder to recognize as a repro but also making it into a better display 😀
Regards,
Lars

Cheers mate, you are correct, it looks fine on display. View attachment 26130View attachment 26130
Nice collection! I agree with the other members about the pickelhaube, and yes, it display's well. Do not worry, everybody here, has made buy's that were not correct, I did several times. Learning here, is what this forum is about, feel free to ask any questions, there are no silly questions, only silly answers. But here, people are alway's ready to help out. Besides the site from Tony, which Sandy correctly stated, is very good, not to say the best, also check out Sandy's site, find it in the little square beneath his posts. Historien kabinett. That site is also mentioned in Tony's site Kaisers bunker. You can also find a lot of info there.

Regards, Coert.

Thanks for the encouragement. Learning the history is one of the main reasons I collect the multiple things that I do. Buying online is always a minefield, but sadly it’s the main option from where I live. I‘ll keep searching. Regards Anthony
