von Kluck Strap

Brian ;
Thanks
Steve

The shoulder strap of General von Kluck is a new for the collection
just acquired in a trade .
von Kluck was a la suite to the Prussian Grenadier Regt 3
A.K. I
the cypher on the strap is for King Friedrich Wilhelm I
the cypher was awarded to the regiment 27. 11. 1889
von Kluck held the rank of Col. General as noted
by the 3 rank pips on his strap
In the real photo postcard von Kluck is wearing the
parade Waffenrock of G R 3 with the epaulettes

Kaiser Wilhelm II was Chef of the regiment

I am a collector of all things related to the 12
Prussian Grenadier regiments
so to have this strap is a treat .

There should be a pair of straps for G R 3 as worn by
Kaiser Wilhelm II but I have yet to see them
in any of the photos from Haus Doorn

Steve,

superb board. Alexander v. Kluck was appointed à la suite to Grenadier-Regiment Nr. 3 on 10 September 1910 so there would have been a two pip variant of this board prior to his promotion to Generaloberst on 27 January 1914.

Glenn ;
Great information and good for me to know .
Thanks for your input .

And by the way ; I have always been unsure just
what to correctly call the rank stars ?
So I use the term pips
Is that proper ?

Thanks

Steve

Steve,

stars is probably more correct; Stern is the term used in the official dress regulations. "Pip" is a term used in the British Army!

Glenn

Steve,

here is a shot of Alexander v. Kluck in later years wearing the Generaloberst boards.

Glenn ;
Thanks for the photo .
I have not seen that one before .
He had aged quite a bit form the postcard photo .
Great to show him wearing the exact strap
