Vote for your favorite helmet

We are planning to do T-shirts again this year and using Tony's suggestion we are going to vote on which helmet to use As the representative helmet. I have never used a poll before but I guess the first stage would be to nominate a helmet. This would be pictured on the T-shirt used in SOS 11. So here is what you need to do.

Select a helmet that you would like to nominate. Post a picture of that helmet knowing in advance that that picture would be used as the basis of artwork for the T-shirt. The owner of the picture must agree to send a high density scan to me for the sole purpose of having it made into a T-shirt picture. This does not have to be any specific type–officer–enlisted- make or model or even type. I don't care but I will vote when the time comes. So post your nominees and after several nominations I will try to figure out how to post a voting deal.

Void where prohibited by law–this is neither fattening nor energy producing–we do not support a specific candidate–while my opinion cannot be altered it is distinctly possible that you may well be able to bribe me about my vote.–there is no judgment rendered as to whether or not this contest can be declared tax-deductible for your state, nation, or locality.

Not sure if Tony will go for this, but how about a picture of Kaiser (his dog) wearing his helmet?

Here's a photo to start this off:

I appreciate that James, but he is closely connected to me and my site, so I think a Pickelhaube would be more appropriate. Thank you though.

I would vote for R1's amazing GRzF Nr. 3 below.

Good Idea Slim.
I second that idea.
Unless Tony is totally against it.

This is not attracting as many nominations as I would have hoped. Several people have commented privately that nominating their own helmet was more than a little bit arrogant. I don't think so–this is a T-shirt design–and if you think about it how else are we going to guarantee a picture unless the owner is on board? There are so many good helmets out there it would be a shame to have me do the picking–Janet just said she would pick.

Great idea but you see that Karel needs to agree to provide the picture! The good news about nominating like that is that you put the pressure on him to come up online and say okay! I frankly am surprised that someone has not yet asked Tony for his JR 92 officers helmet.

Hey Joe

What about one of those b&w etching illustrations from the Muller catalogue? or something like that? In my opinion throwing a color photograph on a t-shirt might not look so good, its hard to control the colors. Not to "toot" my own horn here but i work as a graphic designer for a major apparel company and do t-shirt designs all the time, i would be glad to help.

Good idea !

A (bigger) photo on a T-shirt
An embroided logo on the left or right frontside of a sweater or Polo- shirt...

And: What do you think about a metal pin. This you can wear on all dress; cap; hat...
e.g. a G d C/Garde Kürassier parade helmet...yellowmetal shell with whitemetal parade eagle.

Rgds,

Francis

I hope Tony doesnt mind me using his photo but just to make my point about the "etching" effect this is kind of what i meant. the image can be silkscreened with more control and quality(if you plan on silk screening it). It isnt a vote for best helmet, although this is a very very good looking helmet but just a idea of what i meant before.

Thanks for all the offers to help! Unfortunately, despite 76 views only six people have voted–so far it is 83% against T-shirts.

Hey Joe,
I do not think the vote is against the T shirts, but rather for you to buy something special for your self, that was my vote anyway, I like the first T shirt with the ad on the back best:) If you want a shirt, I think you should make it like you want, but get a shorter shirt, Maggie uses hers for a night shirt and the shirt tail is too long to suit me.
Best
Gus

Hmmm....I agree Gus, I hate a woman in a long tailed night shirt, Not good!! Alright.....I took the bait. Everyone is suggesting elite units...why not one tribute, to the most common helme worn by most of the German Army in 1914 "THE GRUNTS".......The good old M95 Prussian OR helme?? OR an alternate....the M1842, the grand daddy of them all??? Tony has a nice one. My 2 cents.

I have all sorts of catalog pictures. Unfortunately no 1842 except a photograph. But helmets of all sorts. Based on weirdpyramids Kind offer him there is new life in this idea. Perhaps we should start again? One of the great things about catalog pictures is that there is no copyright requirement on the photograph. Perhaps getting give us a design?

In addition, I would be extremely open to a new supplier. We have historically used Café press. However, they have changed ownership and it is really hard to use them compared to how it used to be. You can no longer get a front and back design. In addition, it would be interesting to see different ideas about shirt types. Perhaps some sort of sport shirt with embroidered pocket? Perhaps some sort of a deal that allows everyone to buy it whenever with the proceeds or profits going to the forum? I would still be interested in providing shirts for the SOS crowd. But as of last look 66% were still against T-shirts.

As far as something nice for me–we just took a huge crowd to Disney World and I cannot imagine anything nicer than Christmas with my family. Makes an old man happy! And the beer…!

Yep, those are the etchings! i was looking through some of those tonight and they are very "graphic ready" for a t-shirt in my opinion. Problem is they all seem to be side profile drawings though, no three-quarter view angles. Thats what I liked about Tony's submit, its a better angle. Hope you guys figure something out for the Tees!

I like the prices on the GdK helmet! Wish we could still buy them from CE Junker et al.
Maybe some day the German army will start wearing them again for parade. :P
