Vulkanfibre

Gents,

A new topic for discussion - vulkanfibre. What was it? The specific reason I ask is because I just bought a Wunderlich Uhlan Tschapka that appears to be made of something other than leather, but is still black on the outside and brown on the inside.

What was vulkanfibre? How was it made? Who used it - private purchase? contractors? How do you care for it?

Hi Mike:

I don't know the precise composition of Vulkanfibre, but appears to be a protoplastic akin to fiberglass (vulcanized fiber, if you will). The firm, Depaheg Patent, produced fiber helmets.

The beauty of this composition is very little maintenance is required. Keep it dusted and away from direct sunlight, and you're set for eternity.

So much for the lay answer. I know someone will be able to expand on this.

Chas.
