Cheers guys, Thanks for the welcome, I have been collecting militaria (mainly ww2 items) for about 5 years, But picked up my first pickelhaube the other day (it's not the best example but its the first one I have) So decided to join.

I'm not so sure about mexican potato vodka... as long as they keep the peyote out of it i'm sure we will be safe!.

Cheers
Nick

See Nick,
Otto has confused you, the beer is from Mexico, and Joe consumes most of that, the potato vodka comes from Idaho, and it is normally used for cleaning windows, but it does come in a nice bottle, I sent Joe a bottle of the potato vodka, and he tried to drink it. Welcome here, if you have any questions about your Haube, post a photo or two, and you will be surprised how much some of the members can tell from a quick look.

Ah I see, It did say beer but i was slightly confused by the mention of potatos,

The light? Oh no I think my friends already think I am a lost cause with my collection of ww2 items...

I'm sure the first thought for many upon seeing my pickelhaube would be upgrade (it needs some work the poor thing) its a 1915 steel fittings EM (OR?) Missing its spike so thats one of my first concerns.. it has the nub (not sure what you would call it the base plate for the spike with the bayonet style fitting but the spike is long gone)

Cheers

Hey Nick,
A Haube with out a spike is not a terrible thing, the helmets were worn in the field with out spikes after 1915, so it is appropriate to display one with out a spike. Unfortunatly, spikes like chin straps seem to cost nearly as much as a complete helmet. You need to check the markings in the helmet to see if you should be looking for a spike or a Kugel.

Thanks, I'm at work at the moment, But have some pics of my helm,

There is also a stamping in the top of the crown but it is a lot harder to read.
I can type what is written when I get home,

The most unfortunate thing is the rear skirt stitching is almost all gone and the back of the helm is misshapen I have sewn leather before so will probably carefully using the original holes hand sew it back in place. I have been reading the posts about reshaping

(hmm i really should start a post rather than tacking this all into my welcome!)

Great forum guys
Cheers
Nick

HeyNick,
Not a bad M1915, It is from a Reserve Infantry Regiment, so you need a spike rather than a ball.
