I think it was a Model 1868 Bavarian Raupenhelm at one point. It certainly doesn't meet that classification any more.

I believe that the Ebay helmet and the one pictured in your post are the exact same helmet. I think that the conversion helmets you may be referring to are the type pictured in Kube's book Militaria on page 100, photo 193.

I cannot imagine the one on Ebay as having ever been put into actual use.
