Brass fittings are the most common, especially for the headgear of foot hunters.
Nickel silver fittings are rarer, as they are used by small technical units (telegraph operators, drivers, aviators, etc.).
This is a privately purchased Shako (Extra-Helm Eigentum) for a one-year contract. It has no side vent, and shows a bourdalou (leather strip at the bottom of the hull). The eagle has screw-nut fastenings. The large central button side-post should be M91 with a single anti-rotation latch at the rear.
The inner lining is of the “officer” type, after about 1885. The silk bottom is missing.
