What are these side lugs/ buttons

It was a special of the (Leib)-Grenadier-Reg. No. 8 „König Friedrich-Wilhelm III.“ (1. Brandenburg.):
  • Officers wore rosettes with the royal cypher
  • Enlisted men of the I. and II. Grenadier Battalions wore rosettes with a 5-ray star in sublime embossing.
  • Enlisted men of the III (Füsilier)-Battalion wore rosettes with a wing horn in sublime embossing.

Very interesting. I just saw also other examples and I agree with you that it was like that. But does anyone know since when?
The officers of LGR 8 were allowed to wear these special rosettes since 1808. An award for special services. But I couldn’t find anything about an award for officers of GR 7. Even in the book Friedag “Führer durch Heer und Flotte” from 1914 there is nothing about it. Have officers of LGR 8 been transferred to GR 7 some day?

Thank you for these beautiful photos Steve. Did the officers of the GR 7 also wear these special rosettes? According to my information it was a special of the officers of the LGR 8 only?
*-This is what J-L Larcade Volume I page 18 says: -"From 1 March 1875: the rosettes of the chinscales for the Offz of Grenadier Regt Nr 7 are decorated with the Kaiser Wilhelm I monogram/cypher (a crowned W.R.I.). The Kaiser was "Chef"; Honorary Colonel to this Regiment."

*-Knötel und Pietsch: Uniformenkunde-Das Deutsche Heer-Textband I; page 79-Tafelband II:...Tafel 55: Both Gren Regtr 7 and 8 are shown with the WR I Rosetten for the Offz Helme.

In all my years of collecting, I have only seen one of these helmets once in the flesh. One "walked in" in the hands of a non collector at the SOS several years ago. It was shopped around to various dealers but Randy T from A of K eventually bought it as he offered the best price.
