Where can I get a pickelhaube for under 300 dollars?

Hello. New member here,
I have a small militaria collection, and the one thing I want that I don’t have is a pickelhaube. I know the prices of them have inflated the past few years, so I was wondering if I could get one for under 300 dollars. I’m not looking for a perfect or pickelhaube, whether it’s a silver war time production or not, nor one with original cockades and chinstraps (I know that helmets with these are harder and harder to come by and are very pricey) but a decent pickelhaube would be nice. If anyone knows some places I should look i’d love to know. I just looked at eBay and I saw a little bit of everything. Someone gave me some reproduction prussian and empire cockades and a chinstrap, so I already have those parts. Thank you so much!

Honestly for that price and given you’ve got a lot of repro pieces already I think you should get a high end complete reproduction from top to bottom. It would be within your budget and would look better, jmo.

If anything prices have dropped because there's so many out there as collectors or vets are dying off, except for the overpriced retail sites who's sole point is to profit off of you. Decent pieces pop up on eBay weekly if not daily, especially Prussian EMs because they are ridiculously common, mostly auctions but many are buy it now. Most are sold by people who have no knowledge about them or inherited them, or estate/storage buyers reselling.
I've bought most of my collection for under $350, even a felt ersatz for $298 and Baden EM for $315 a few months ago. Most require some clean up and maybe a chinstrap and cockades, and many are missing the liner but still look great on display. Look every day, and never ever bid until the last 10 seconds. If it's a buy it now, buy it quick! eBay has a money back authenticity guarantee (unlike everywhere else) so you can always return it regardless of the seller's policy.
Years ago before I bought my first one I thought I'd piece together a real one which is doable of course, I found a shell for $125 and a wappen and spike for $40 but it was the cost of the little parts like spine and visor trim that adds up, then I started seeing better examples selling for $300-500 every time. I even found a complete French cuirassier helmet for $300.
I am an eBayaholic but I guarantee if you hunt every day you'll catch something within a couple months, especially if you're looking for a simple Prussian EM. Good luck!

Yeah, I have been checking eBay for a while and I haven’t been seeing a lot unfortunately. I’ve seen a lot of ridiculous prices. If anyone here has one they don’t want and would he willing to sell for a small price i’d love to see.

But you have to know very well about ebay in order not to be disappointed. In my opinion, the prices for decent helmets have unfortunately risen and continue to rise. But maybe my claim has also increased.
I think for a Pickelhaube for only 300€ you need a lot of luck. It’s not impossible, because there are a few ebay sellers who are honest and don’t let their auctions be bid up. But really everything has to fit and only a few people should be interested in it.
In any case, I wish you good luck in your search. For 500€-600€ a Pickelhaube would still be cheap but I would estimate the success more realistically.

Regular Prussian helmets, non-unit marked, are indeed pretty cheap. Or let's say they did not follow the steep rise in prices we've seen with other militaria the last 6 years. Especially WW2. But I find it hard to relate to some prices here.

Or is there a difference between the US and Europe? 315 dollars would be roughly a third of the price of a nice, all original Baden helmet here (depending on which type etcetera of course).

Sure if you want a helmet where half of it is a reproduction you can, but that's not militaria. That's a costume.

I agree with Bobted, save up. I see prices slowing down, but not going down. If they do, it's a lucky thing. On the other hand, it only takes two or three with more money than brains...
Oh my god it doesn’t even have a wappen on it. Yeah, I’ll definitely save up but if I can find one cheaper even if it means it’s missing the cockades and strap (which most I’ve seen on eBay are unfortunately) I don’t mind putting replacement ones on. I have a reproduction one that is meant for wearing

If you can afford $300 you can afford $600 just save up a bit longer. Rob
Yeah, I’ll keep checking this forum for any for sale or on eBay. I am not sure if there are a lot of basic pickelhaubes for sale on this forum it seems like most of the stuff for sale here is the big leagues 😂
I’ve been checking some of the posts around and you guys have amazing stuff!

That’s pretty much what I want, a basic Prussian helmet. Nothing too fancy. I have a reproduction one all ready. I’ve been wanting a real one for a while
