Where's the exciment?

Well It is official, we are currently snow bound, not really that much snow, but with winds that are strong enough for the local weathermen to report ( around here, 30 mph is just a breeze) I can deal with deep snow if I can see where I am going, but we have one of the worst ground blizzards I have seen for a few years. In the past, I would have to fire up the 4 wheel drive tractor with the dozer and plow my way to the ranch to help feed cows, but now that the cows are gone, I just brew a cup af tea and put my feet up. I might be late (and that might be the optimistic version)

Good news, conditions are improving, we can see nearly 100 feet now, actually visibility is really good if you are looking up, the tops of the power poles are easy to see, but they are not quite close enough together to use as a driving aid. At least I can start packing the car with out worrying about getting lost.

Good news abounds! I am all packed up. Found some stuff I didn't remember that I had. PayPal came through. I did a test run on the credit card. All systems are go. Confidence is high. We have barber poles! Now being that James said he is bringing a lot – we are going to be – challenged – for space. Don't forget the table cover. Daisy has to have a place to hang out. She likes her little cave. I am really sorry that the guys from Europe cannot join us so easily. It would be a blast to have them.

This storm is headed east. we plan on following it, and I thnk James is going to try to get in ahead of it, I will wager he will be inthe middle of the nasty ness, but he claims that he does not even need a ice scraper, as he can drive just fine with out being able to see, which is a good thing as Joe lost James' ice scraper last year.

I have good news and bad news, the roads between here and there have very light traffic, that is the good news, the bad news is that the only traffic on these roads are the cars that are stuck in snow banks before the roads were closed.
We are going to look at the road reports later today, but I think tomorrow will be better, we still plan on being there, but we might be late. He he, I will do anything to get out of helping set up.

Gus, I hope you make it OK. I've enjoyed the illustrated accounts of your trips in the past, so keep us posted.

You should think yourself lucky you don't live in the UK-2 inches of snow makes the national news and causes chaos. On the other hand the beer is much, much better here!

Hey Patrick,
We are really lucky that everywhere in the US is with in driving distance (except Hawaii). The national news does not report weather in the west, unless it has something to do with the oscar awards. As far as the news people know, the west is Colorado and east, and no weather occurs before Denver. The one advantage to US beers is that they have a much longer shelf life, while most other beers have gone bad long before a can of Oly is even sold, of course, the thing that makes good beers go bad is the kidneys.

Patrick,

I respectfully completely disagree with your analysis. I was in central England once and I had a pint of something called cider. I think it was called Scrumpy Jack. That stuff tasted like… well it tasted very poorly. If indeed that was given to your troops during the great war it is absolutely amazing that they did as well as they did. On the other hand gas attacks would have been nothing after this.

Joe

We gave them rum-one of the very few creature comforts the Government saw fit to give its front line troops. Even then it was probably done to anaesthetise against the terrible conditions and sheer fear, rather than any more positive concern for morale. At least that's what I've always thought, but maybe I'm a cynic. I wonder if there's scope for a PhD in looking at the history of states issuing alcohol to troops, the motivation and the consequences!

I'm not going to argue for cider. I'll stick to the merits of beer , particularly 'real ale'.

Patrick

It is my understanding that the Canadians were the first build a tank with a beer holder, which really makes sense, as it is hard to run two clutch levers while holding a beer, it works OK if one track is worn more than the other, and you want to go straight, then you can drive all day with out setting the beer down.

PS The Wyoming Transportation Department has all the wrecked cars cleared of the roads, that is much better than the way they handle it in Missouri, there they just put a bit of yellow police tape on the wreck and leave it for later, even if it is in the middle of the road.

Gus, leave already, point the car east and go:D

Our car is loaded up, 9:00 a.m. departure tomorrow :greentank:

Oh boy , another 12+ inches of snow coming to KC Tuesday. Scheduled to leave Wednesday AM. Looks like a challenge this year! Best of luck to all travellers. 8-[

I guess there's no chance of leaving today and getting ahead of it? You are probably like my kids – they always have some sort of these excuse – work. :army:

I've been looking for a topic -genuinely!

Patrick,

Were are you studying? What is the main subject? I tell you on the German side of history of ww1 there are millions of topics. And all sorts of opinions! Good luck in your topics search! :bravo: :bravo:

A big storm hitting here today, looks like there is a good window and Wyoming is open for travel, New Braska is not so good, but we are not there yet.

Thanks to help from James, we are parked in a snow bank in eastern Iowa, at least we remembered to pack a sleeping bag in the event that we got stranded. Meanwhile, James is beating me out of great deals in KY.
