Which Duchy?

A fake - of course. Collecting is just so difficult now. When I used to collect 40 odd years ago you could only buy at auctions and fairs and had the item in your hands and could tell if it felt right. Now with fleabay nobody is safe!

Some poor sucker paid 310 pounds for it...

Fortunately, these days, research books are much better than in the 1960's and there were a lot of parts and bogus helmets backt hen as well, but I agree, there's a lot more out and out fraud around now.

I agree, thats exactly the reason why I am reluctant to buy helmets at ebay even when the best conditions for return etc are provided. Therefore, I prefer to buy my stuff at established dealers but as always one still has still do its home work :D

Purchased a nice wartime Bavarian Officer at Ebay a couple of years ago, validated with you guys before I bought it.

Didn't have the funds to purchase this one anyway, was half interested at best.

Would like to add a nice example of one of the smaller Duchies to my collection.

This one was one of the more convincing repro's, feel a bit sorry for this guy, probably thinks he got a bargain.

I've gotten some great helmets off of ebay: a General to Parade and General a'la Suite, plus a nice Bavarian and beautiful Saxon NCO academy M-15. I've no problem bidding or buying, especially if there's a return policy. Like Tony once said, he asks the helmet to prove that it's authentic and when it does... Bango! Nice helmet! Nope, I've had good luck on ebay and won't bid if it looks the least bit fishy. Besides, most fakes are fairly easy to spot and repicas are stated as such. Then, when interested but in doubt, ask Pick's . com! :)
