Hi guy's,

I recently aquired a dress jacket for a Maschinistmaat and I'm puzzled by the unit marks printed inside the jacket? Can anyone explain them to me?

Here's a pic of the markings

Also, here's a pic of the jacket

By the way, does anybody know the best way of cleaning the cloth silver cuff insignia? Or is it best left alone?

Hi Mike,
The markings in the box,
BAW Bekeidugsampt Wilhelmshaven
30. 4. 13 #0 April 1913
1 is the size
Below that is
II.T.7. Second Torpedodivision at Kiel and I would have to guess about the 7
90 is the soldier's number
13 means taht he enlisted in 1913

This information was taken from Johan somer's second volume
Best wihses

Ghus my old mate,

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling it was the "Torpedodivision" but I think it was Wilhelmshaven. Now who's this Johan Somer's you spoke of???? and can I obtain this book easily?

By the way, PM just sent with my addy.

Hey Mike,
Johan's books are titled
Imperial German field uniforms and equipment 1907-1918,
He is working on a 3rd volume, and I think that they are a very good general refferance for WWI German equipment, I got mine off Amazon and they run about $44 each plus shipping (it should be less in pounds sterling)
Best wishes
Gus
