Why is this picture so hotly contested?

What is the cool feature that drives the price on this one?

It is beyond me Joe. The unit is a common theme in pc's, ordinarily equipted, ordinarily dressed. To me at least, just another ausmarsch pc. I don't get why they are driving the price up. I am sure Thomas Urfaust is liking it a whole lot, and rightfully so!

Its not the item, its the bidders. There are TWO guys who could bid this up as high as they are willing to go. Perhaps two guys who both collect to (4.Württembergisches) Nr.122? It is, however, a beautiful image.

It is indeed and I have no room to talk after I got into it with Stratman over that Hessian picture. But in my defense ( your honor) the Hessian picture had some real rarities. 1st Bn 116 with 115th uniforms and an entire array of helmets. I know.....not worth what I paid but I see nothing exceptional about this picture unless you are right about 122.

The fellow appears to be wearing knit wristlets and a knit scarf. I wonder if that could also be adding to the interest between the two bidders?

Here is what I see.... a nice clear image, an uberzug (122), the 98 bayonet, the corduroy pants, the flash light and the obvious knit sweater being worn underneath the tunic. Lets face it the price pales in comparison with what we all are willing to spend on a helmet. Brian

I agree with Tony. Just a case of two bidders (who both spend big bucks on photos) wanting the same nice clear photo. Joe, I can't imagine that Stratman ever gets outbid. He seems to have no limits when it comes to spending.

Hey Chip,
I can imagine that $127.50 will out bid Stratman, I just can not remember who would bid so much.

I will never live that down....

You have got to hand it to Urfaust. He has a great eye for photos and has learned very quickly about what sells. He has made a fortune from two and three dollar (or less) postcards. Knowledge is power (and has value). He also is becoming quite a salesman too. Good research equals a higher price. If I lived in Germany, I could make a living doing this too. What a great life...roaming the flea markets, attending postcard shows, doing a little research (with a secretary to put the cards on ebay). Sign me up!

I agree totally Chip a nice life. It is ironic that everyone wants the German stuff from both wars. The decendants of German veterans are certainly filling their bank accounts by selling on Ebay. Not much demand for CEF pictures either WW1 or WW2. The problem is....no spiked hats!!!! Brian
