This one talks to me but no bids .

Is there something there that I do not see ?

The pictures are dark ( done on purpose ?)

I know it is missing the front visor and the antlers are gone but that can be taken care off.

Looks like a fair dinkum M1891 to me, one that made it unchanged past 1895 and picked up the Reichskokarde in 1897 or at any other point along the way.

I don't know about it being a battlefield relic though. In that case (if it were still in service then) probably the vent in the rear spine would have been added by the quartermaster.

My guess: a long forgotten helmet that may (or may not) have been part of the Great War... probably not. Genuine M1891? Oh yes.

But hey: who am I? I've been away from active collecting for a long time. Don't take my opinion for gospel :D

Looks fine to me as well. Some older features....no vent on the spine and the tang on the underside of the spine is fastened with a domed split brad. The typical M95 screw post and square nut are not used. The fact that it is marked to the 125th is good as well.

I looked at this one. I have to admit that the bullet hole, or whatever it is, in the spike, and the missing visor trim would bother me.

John

fair dinkum +1 and it should clean up nice. B, Lorree can probably add some visor trim for you. Extra spike hole is curious but does not detract for me.

It went for GBP 385.51 which is approximately US $515.66. I think that's not too steep a price, and I'm happy for whomever it is that got it!

It's about 438 euros, which I would have been prepared to pay for it... if I had it - which I didn't :(

Right now the euro is quite pleasing relative to the British pound, which makes for rather decent conversions when buying British offers. In dollars it suddenly looks much worse though.

The CN buck usually runs $2 to the GBP Jaap and of course right now we are about .27 in cost to buy Uncle Sam's dollar. The CN government likes to keep the buck below US so as to encourage sales to the American market.

Ah, the intricacies of international economics :D!
