Notice the leather is turned as it would have been while the cow was still wearing it.
Looks similar to helmets seen elsewhere.

There are things I don't like on this helmet but your comments are about the liner? I want to learn and that the 13 tounge liner does not look right at all :( . Are there other leather items that are bad? Doesn't it look like the vent holes in the base were hammered in by an ice pick?

Hi Joe,
As I always say, I'm not an expert but, I don't like it, strange shape of the shell and visors, strange leather texture of the liner, the details of the plate...Hmmmm, no way to be real.
Otto

PS. But it's just my opinion.

compare it to this rubish!

Joe, I agree with Otto, the Corpus lacks a symmetry, and the surface apears to have been hand worked into the bowl shape, rather than shaped on a form.

This is a repro beyond a doubt. The 13 fingered liner is never found on originals. The edge of the liner around the shell is not tight, clear and crisp as it should be. In addition, the interior colour of both the shell and the visors is mottled. The reddish colour is not the same on all surfaces. There are dark and light areas, this is caused by the use of leather dye which is applied by hand. Real "air burning" which produces this colour on original liners and the interior of helmets is the result of years of exposure to sun light and the environment.
The best way to think of this is a sun tan. Exposure of human skin and leather to sunlight produces a tan colour which is even and obviously original. Using leather dyes can not reproduce this natural process. My repro liners are good, but I can not duplicate the natural red air burn colour of original 100 year old leather which we see on the flesh side ( next to the shell) of black dyed original liners.
