WW1 Era German Spike Helmet.

Although the bidding on this helmet has ended, I am interested in your opinion about it because I was seriously considering to make a bid; in fact, I had my snipe already configured. I decided not to make a bid because I have a bad feeling about the marking inside the helmet. Its a bit difficult to read, but I think it looks like P.R. 30 (pioneer regiment?) and, moreover, I think the number of bids (12) is also indicative that there might be something wrong but on the other hand many obvious fakes attract more bids.

Where is the problem with the marking, Edwin???
This being said, albeit legit this helmet was quite unattractive, and missing the spike... I thought the whole point about being into spike helmets is that they come with a spike...
(just pulling your legs, but there is really nothing to regret here).

It's all okay–this marking was actually on our list.

During mobilization the 8 peacetime fortress pioneer battalions were expanded into 10 pioneer regiments. The regimental numbers were 18, 19, 20, 23, 24, 25, 29, 30, 31 and the Bavarian pioneer Regiment.

I want to identify a lot material.
Does somebody knowes what kind of book i can buy.

I have the book mentioned in the link above `The Imperial German Regimental Markings` by Jeff Noll It is very good, explains how the markings worked and also lists hundreds of known examples.
It was hard to get hold of it as I remember and I got no response from contacting him through the site.
 
Jeff is a good guy who comes to SOS annually. I think he sold out his book but I cannot be sure. My only caution is that the regimental markings that Jeff does are heavily weapons oriented. These are a lot different than helmet markings. I did not know that much about uniforms but perhaps Tony can tell you where this book falls in relation to uniform markings. Certainly is top-notch with the weapons guys.

Thanks for the information. I was actually looking for this, but I could not spent much time on it because I was at work and without proper verification of the marking I decided not to make a bid. Nevertheless, it is an original helmet, which I missed this time :(
