Massive 21cm Howitzer in a town in Poland in 1916.

You can see from the missing roof tiles on the buildings that this massive artillery piece has been shelling some unfortunate Russians.

This gun was so heavy that it had to spilit into two separate parts the barrel and breach, and the carriage, recoil buffers and the rest of the gun. On the move the gun required 12 horses just to pull the two sections. You can see a soldier leaning on the carriage section of a 21cm Morser, though this second picture dates from 1917 and the Western Front.

It wasn't until 1918 when Mercedes Benz devolped a diesel tractor that this gun could be moved in one piece
