WW1 Turkish buckle

I don't know how I missed this... I really do like the 'modified' buckle! I love it when soldiers use their artistic ability to modify / improve their equipment. I did something similar in basic training with what we called our 'bus driver' hat (Mutze), I didn't like the pebble finish on the visor and dull chin strap so I spent two weeks polishing the strap and filling in the pebbling then polishing the visor. I thought I was in deep Sh@@ when my drill sergeant stopped and asked me what I'd done to my headgear. Then, he smiled and said, 'Outstanding!' Needless to say, I've been 'modifying' my uniforms ever since!

I still have the hat and it still looks great. :)

Kose (sorry, no punctuation), also means beardless.... Could it have something to do with fighting the shame the 'infidels' (beardless) are bringing to Allah and Turkey? In essence, retaining honor by fighting the invaders for Allah?
