Hes guys,

I offer this helmet up for discussion.
I got this helmet 25 years ago.
When I got it it, it had a black bush with tritcher
It is from Hanover and looks to be reissued.
There are double holes behind the plate with brass gromets.
The plate is original but the loops look to be relocated
It has a name on the front bill.
There is a maker mark on the interior
Stamped on the left visor has been sanded out ( possibly during turn over )
Stamped on the right side with a large #1 and 10 FAR

What do you guys think ?
Period changes or post war ?

Hi,

I haven't seen this sort of double holes before, only where the old holes have been closed up professionally and new holes made. The pair of holes with the smallest distance in between looks oldest, the other pair made later and not very professionally either.

The FAR 10 stamp looks wrong (fake) in my eyes, wrong size, wrong font, wrong spot, combined with the sanded out marking on the left (obsolete markings are normally crossed out with ink) and the strange "1" stamp not a good sign.

The maker's mark "Actien-Ges Thiele" for "Actien-Gesellschaft für Leder-, Maschinenriemen und Militäreffekten-Fabrikation, vorm. Heinrich Thiele", looks ok.

The visible part of the rear spine looks strange to my eyes, but here I gladly stand corrected.

For me, all the above, together with the moved prongs on the Wappen, indicate that this helmet has never belonged to FAR 10, and was made to appear like it did probably long after WW 1, most likely in more recent times.

Regards,

Lars

The smaller pair of holes are original and the "further apart" pair is newly made to accommodate the plate. The thickness of the brass eyelets is wrong.
The battle banner doesn't seem quite right to me with the black ink and the way it is sitting around the upper half of the heraldic eagle.
FAR stamping, I agree with LARS.
Sorry for pointing out so many errors but there again, I may be wrong with my judgement.

Thanks for all your feedback.
Although NOT music to my ears .
But I do think that the plate is correct ( over looking the moved loops )
Amy, you have a officers helm and the WATERLOO bandeau is under the crown showing off the voided crown.( a real beauty !!)
The EMs were under it.
There is an EM up for sale right now with the configuration just like mine.
