These poor souls just don't know what they're doing...

Brad :-?

Brad, I strongly suspect that these three may have been from the collection of a now deceased mutual friend of ours. I base this suspicion upon the method of recreation as well as the address of the seller.

Could these be from India? They have that 'flared from the top down', puddin'-basin look and the cross-bases overlap the shell?

They do look like the ones from an Indian website.

They are leather, which no doubt pleases some bidders, but despite the material they don't look right---which is a good thing for well-read collectors of the future.

Regards,
Brad

Do you think they were built there?

Brad, they all show indications of Dave's work, relacquered original skulls, repro Wappen, mixed parts. He would make helmets he could never afford from parts. He often used fireman helmet skulls to start from. They were made for his own pleasure never for sale.

I've seen pictures of the ones he put together, but never did see anything as rough as the items on eBay. The helmets on eBay seem to be just like the ones available on an Indian website: artificially aged liners, horrible stitching, crude metal parts and pudding basin domes.

Either way, it's not cool. They've listed three more with prices approaching a grand.

Yikes!

Here's a link to more of the same, but in Canada:
