Bavarian General Adjutant

Glenn, do you have photos of other Flugeladjutant, adjutant, war ministry officers? The one you posted is excellent for study.

Steve, that certainly looks like your shoulder boards…cipher placement different but still…. wonderful

I feel for sure that he had more than one uniform
especially over the years
Here he is in Feldgrau
I had a photo of him in pre war Waffenrock

I think that you are correct about the Flugeladjutant to Carl Edward .I think his name was von Gilhausen ?
some years ago in Germany there was an estate sale of the family of a German GFM von Bock u. Pollock.
Both of GFM batons were there .His sword and a large group of photos .An American dealer over there named
Dean Krasomil went to sale .He bought all of the photos .
The GFM was close with Carl Edward .There were a lot of photos of Carl Edward and his adjutant.
I ended up with 2 autographed photos of Carl Edward.
One in the uniform of the 1 GRzu Fuss wearing the parade miter
the other photo is with his wife on their wedding day .In this one
he wears the uniform of H R 9 as a General
Steve
I found a photo of the autographed photo of Carl Edward on his wedding day.
He wearing the uniform of H R 9 in the rank of General .
I owned that uniform at one time .
It can now be seen in the 2 vol set of books on Husaren by B. Sanders .

This is truly amazing and information filled thread, as well as confusing. This is because that is the way the history of the recently united Imperial German Nation which brought multiple kingdoms together. So there was much duplication of rules and traditions to bring together into a cohesive military. Thank you for bringing so much information to the forum.
Best regards
John

I saw this uniform at the Greding fair. She is very rare. Of course, the name of the wearer is also worth a prize. The condition of the uniform is too bad for me. There are some moth holes and patches in the fabric. The quality was too bad for me.

Did you buy it ?
Steve
I made a deal to get it. Ive wanted it since a collector friend owned it but he traded to Weitze on a deal. The same man owns his M16 blues and I’d like to have it one day. he also owns some other rare personality items.

Bavarian General à la Suite
Hi Charles,

just saw this one. As I opined earlier in this thread, no Bavarian officer was appointed as a General à la suite to the Bavarian King, which therefore leaves just the one explanation for this tunic:

Oberst Otto Graf zu Castell-Castell was promoted to the rank of Generalmajor as a Flügel-Adjutant on 28 May 1918. He was not appointed as a General à la suite and simply added Generalmajor shoulder boards to his tunic.

Regards
Glenn

Thanks Glen, I think the uniform shown in post #70 may have also belonged to Castell-Castell. I wonder why he was promised to Generalmajor but not appointed à la suite. We’ll never know.

It seems General à la suite can be confusing as well. General-Adjutant and Flugel- Adjutant are clear since you’ve explained it a few times over the years on forums.

This tunic is extremely nice and high quality material in hand. The tabs are superb…

Thank you for posting this tunic photo. The piece screams expert tailoring and high quality materials. 👍

Outstanding, that is a gorgeous tunic! The aiguillettes are super, a beautiful display.
Cheers,
Dennis

La plaque Bavaroise de Général, perd les rameaux de laurier en 1913, et reçoit des émaux de couleurs sur le blason en 1914.
A noter la rarissime plaque en maillechort, de colonel d'Etat-Major, ayant fonction de Général.
