Spike with a tarnish of tobacco smoke.Very difficult tarnish to remove,which over time causes micro pitting.Before cleaning, you can soften the object with acetone solvent.Cleaning ingredients: citric acid, baking soda, facade cleaner, a little water and a toothbrush.This is a very time-consuming technique.Working time about 5 hours.Facade cleaner can be substituted for dishwashing liquid or other heavy-duty cleaner.

Now it should be protected with the original shellac-based varnish for brass. Because brass under the influence of moisture ages.
Varnishes were tinted with various dyes to imitate gold.

When I do clean fittings, I use a sonic cleaner.

I used one to clean before reloading my own rifle/handgun ammo. The cartridge cases come out fine.

I use a different chemical to clean first a solution of sodium carbonate (alkali) - gently copper comes out. Then citric acid with hydrogen peroxide and sodium chloride. The sheets come out quite bright. Then dyed chemically. The process is for people with patience.
But any process is good to make the result satisfactory.
