Baden Griffen Wappen.

Hello, I saw some Griffen without a crown. Are they from different ranks or time periods?
Thank you,
Arend

After 1918, a lot of crowns were removed from pickelhaubes, because of the fall of the monarchy. Not on all thankfully, but a lot of them.

Regards, Coert.

That Baden helmet's wappen is civil service, not military, looking at the banner.
For military the banner reads "Mitt gott fur furst und vaterland". As far as I know, but I know not much of civil service hauben, it should have a crown though.

The crowns, officer versions especially, are delicate and prone to breaking off. It would not be uncommon for the crown to overlap the spike base on cruciform mounts like this one.

It's an odd one - definitely a civil plate, as Coert says. Looks like a Hessian cockade?

That kokarde is indeed Hessen Jeff, I noticed this too. Maybe it's a Hessen Arty helmet, with the wrong plate on it..

Pete identified it correctly, a fireman officer helmet from Baden, as was mentioned, the motto is not military. However, there are some good Baden officer parts on that piece. The same companies that made the military helmets also catered to fire and police.
