I seen somewhat similar helmets but after hours of searching I can’t find anything exactly like this. The strap is different the iron cross, lining. Anyone have more information??IMG_6289.jpegIMG_6288.jpegIMG_6286.jpegIMG_6285.jpeg

Best I can do is an iCloud link. I just get error messages when trying to upload, this should work.

The file just has to be smaller. I always try to upload images directly from my phone, but I get error messages. So I just take a screenshot of the image and crop unnecessary bits and it works just fine.

This is a Baden PB14 Reserve officer helmet. Just need a clean and it will come out good. The star retainers securing the spike is incorrect though. I have the star retainers if u want to buy them to make it a correct helmet. Cockades by the side are EM style which need to be corrected too.

Thank you, what’s the value, as is?

If I'm correct, those retainers are meant for shoulderboards.
A nice helmet, which doesn't need much to make it authentic though.

Amy and Coert have pointed out some things that are problematic, but these things are able to be corrected on the helmet.

There are shoulder board "Pips" holding the spike base onto the helmet. Amy says she has a correct set of officer stars for sale to add to the helmet to correct the problem.

The spike looks to be dented up quite significantly, which is unfortunate. The back spine on the helmet appears to be cracked or broken, which is also unfortunate. It would be close to nearly impossible to find a matching size back spine to replace on this helmet.

Front visor metal trim edge piece looks to be enlisted pattern, and not an officer edge trim piece for the front visor. I had a 10th Pioneer Battalion helmet which has an enlisted style front visor metal edge trip piece on the helmet.

Amy pointed out that the Baden kokarde is for an enlisted pattern helmet. This could easily be fixed by adding a Baden officer kokarde to the helmet.

I notice that the National colors kokarde is missing the raised metal silver ring. I can see a couple of holes in the kokarde where the bent prongs would have held the raised silver ring in place.

If this is supposed to be a Baden 14th Pioneer Battalion helmet, the flat chinscales should be brass/gilt, and not silver like what are on this helmet. The rosettes are correct, as they are silver.

Best Wishes,

Alan

Yes definitely shoulder board rank insignia....not proper pickelhaube officer stars. The cross on the griffin chest also indicates a reserve officer. The piece is private purchase with officer characteristics but if the spike base retainers were proper brass studs, this could also be OYV or even senior NCO. In addition "T", there is only one Baden Pioneer Battalion so this is a rare helmet. Pioneer units were also Battalions not Regiments so the number of soldiers is much smaller. This battalion was established in 1850 and based at Kehl. As Alan has pointed out though, it is confusing that the scales are not brass which is regulation.

Thanks for all the responses and information. So this was my grandfathers that he bought or acquired somewhere in Europe during ww2. I’m trying to figure out its value and the best way to go about selling it as the funds are needed to go towards my grandmothers medical bills, nursing home etc. thank you!
