Hi,

I'm looking for a reference book about the WW1 Imperial German army regimental flags. Is it possible to find a good and complete reference book about this subject?

Also, can someone tell me what happened to the Prussian Regimental flags found by the US Army at Bernterode and turned over to the custodianship of the Hessian Minister President in 1949?

I can get you a list of books that are helpful to me about I G flags .
My personal best for quick reference is the Bulgarian Fahna album
Major Fiebig did a great reference on I G flags
Just today I posted 2 small books by Reinhard Redlin that were
sold at the Rastatt museum in the 1980's
I know of one Hessian flag in a private collection
Most of the references are on Prussian flags
Can you tell me the regiment / Batl of the Hessian flag that you ask about ?
If you want to get into more high dollar books
there is the old 4 Vol set done in the 1890's on Prussian flags
If you can find them ? This covers the old regiments because regiments
raised after the books were published ill not be in there.
I will try and get you more info
I have reprints of the books done on Saxon and Hessian flags
some, if not all will require search of old book dealers on line

Hello Steve,

Thank you very much for your help.

I will try to find the "Bulgaria-Fahnenbilder; Ruhmreiche Fahnen deutscher Geschichte ; Die Fahnen u. Standarten d. alten Armee ; [Sammelalbum]" at a good price.

Concerning the Hessian. I'm not looking for a flag of this State. I'm reffering to the decision of the USA to put back the flags they found in 1945 to the Hessian Minister President in 1949.

I'm trying to identify the enclosed flag to know which unit it would belong.

It's not a Hessian flag .
It is a Prussian Telegraph
I will see what I can find out
I do not know that story, so it is interesting.
That's a rare flag
I have a list of the flags taken by the Russians
and I have list of the flags that the DHM has

A Telegraph battalion! Oh! Thanks for the precision! I thought it was a Jäger one.

Very interesting the lists you have.

This regimental standard has only the 1900 Banderole without the clasps, best I can tell, so according to my reference that would make it TB Nr5, Königsberg (1913) or TB Nr6, Hannover (1914)

Thanks a lot for your post and the precision of its content!

Can you tell me what source this image comes from?

Richard, the book contains the information on TB 1-6, 5 & 6 did not have the Banderole clasps, so for me it was just the process of elimination. A great reference piece! I highly recommend it.

A good reference piece indeed! Fortunately, it's easy to find it. It's just a matter of getting it at a good price.

The 1900 Banderole as given out 1. Jan. 1900
So it a unit had not yet been formed by that date
