Here's an intriguing item I picked up at a local flea market.

It was going cheap so I couldn't resist adding it to the collection. Just the ticket for keeping your Pickelhaube in sparkling new condition.šŸ§

Well...maybe not after 125 years in the tin, although I haven't removed the lid to see what shape the contents are in. It must have been popular as the locations where it was available are printed around the perimeter of the container, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, New Orleans etc.

Whatever the ointment inside this box is made of, I don't think it was used to polish helmets and helmet fittings. This advertisement indicates that it is simply a protected trademark bearing the name ā€˜Helmā€™.
Recruits were strictly forbidden to polish their helmets, and were only allowed to do so occasionally ONLY with a little bit chalk powder, when the Wappen had tarnished over time.
This is most certainly a universal polishing paste for all domestic metal objects, such as pots, pans, cauldrons, etc.

Thanks for posting those advertisements. I sort of guessed that was the case if it was being marketed in the U.S. and England.

I thought the use of a pickelhaube as a trademark was interesting. :)

Thanks. I had the mask custom made and then painted in the Prussian Gardes theme. Amazingly, (well maybe not if you're familiar with hockey dressing rooms) no one has ever commented on the mask's design. Goalies just dress in the corner and then the players get to fire pucks at us.

I'm in the twilight of my career. I play twice a week with the Smiths Falls "Puckheads" over 60 age group.

I'm actually a diehard Habs fan but I inherited a set of pads plus blocker and glove from a fellow who played for the Pittsburgh Penguins Farm Team back when they wore black and yellow. Over the years as I replaced pieces of equipment I stayed with the black, yellow, white colour scheme,

Itā€™s an awesome paint job, surprised none of your teammates asked about it, but players probably looking forward to the post game dressing room beers!
