I recently stumbled upon this Bavarian M1845/48 Raupenhelm shell while browsing eBay, and after talking to the seller and negotiating a lower price, I pulled the trigger on it! It's in rough shape, but I really enjoy restoring helmets, so I think this will be a fun project that should keep me occupied for another year or so. This helmet appears to have spots for a visor trim on both the front and rear visors, so I assume that this used to be an artillery helmet like the one @J.LeBrasseur posted a while back in the "Raupenhelme" forum: https://www.pickelhaubes.com/xf/threads/bavarian-m1845-48-artillery-raupenhelm.12603/
Sewing happens to be one of my many side hobbies, so I'm planning on sewing my own reproduction raupe using the measurements of an original, and then I'm going to ask my metal-worker friend to see if he can fashion me some brass visor trims. Not sure where to find the rest of the parts, so if anyone has any leads that'd be great!
