Well, That's a downer. Yes, I totally agree, there are several people who state that they avoid certain alcohol styles like specifically Tequilla because of a bad experience. Alcoholism is indeed a health risk and serious condition. Heck, Alcoholism can actually have death be a side effect from DT's (Delirium Tremens). However, this thread is not for the Teetotalers. Like with anything addictive, there needs to be a bit of temperance and maturity to enjoy. It may not be so simple, unfortunately. Recent research at Princeton University has shown that the brain can retain long-term memory of an adverse gustative experience. After food poisoning, for instance, a population of neurons in the central amygdala will remain "tagged", albeit asleep, but will get reactivated in case of re-exposure to the taste initially associated with the malaise, reinducing unpleasant feelings of discomfort and sickness.
A friend of mine was forced to drink beer at a student party, got really sick, and became unable to absorb a single drop of beer for his whole life...
Of course, there is a chance to over indulge and perhaps die or have major health concerns. However, this forum is about recommendations of a good beer for those who like to partake. If you choose not to partake, than that is your right.
"To Each their Own" as the Latin motto Suum Cuique, which is the motto for the Order of the Black Eagle.
No good story ever started with: "I was eating a salad and..."
Beer and alcohol has been around for many millennia, I totally agree, responsible drinking, not driving or operating machinery/cars after having enjoyed alcohol is totally not acceptable. However, If you enjoy a beer or two in a responsible manner; not putting yourself or anyone else in danger, then, it is one of the best things to do with people. To raise a pint to celebrate the "Moment". for this moment like the pint is fleeting. Take it for what it is. Cheers/Prost/Siálante or what ever "well wishing" slogan you choose to use.
To life and happiness amongst friends.
