Something about the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg

Zeb why do you say 1870? Looks to be 1860.

It’s a beautiful Dragoner helmet.
Tony, I wrote Mod. 1870 accordingly with J.L. Larcade (tome 2 page 117) because the army of the Duchy of Oldenburg was incorporated into the Prussian Army by a treaty of July 15, 1867.
From October 1, 1867, the Grand Duchy's cavalry regiment became a dragoon regiment and took the name "Oldenburgisches Dragoner Regiment No. 19." The helmet is the Prussian one with the Prussian dragoon eagle with the motto "Mit Got fur Koenig und Vaterland) without the white metal star and the oldenburgische coats of arms. The cockade is the Prussian one and is worn on the right side.
Only with the AKO of March 3, 1870, were the eight -pointed star and the Oldenburg coat of arms added to the Prussian dragoon eagle.
Therefore, with these characteristics, we could call the helmet Mod. 1867/70 or simply Mod. 1870.

All most desirable helmets. Thank you Zeb for launching this thread.
Here is an officer helmet of the older model. Surprisingly, like Zeb's, it sports both left and right cockades.
Dear Bruno, really an oustanding officers' example. Congratulations.
Like mine it has the Prussian cockade on the right side and the Oldenburg cockade on the left, which could be worn by soldiers who were originally citizens of the Grand Duchy of Oldenburg.

Officers should wear only the Prussian cockade, although I believe the rule was not widely followed.

Steve, as usual two stunning text-book's officers helmet.
The right one have the chin-strap cover. Is it a mod. 15 or....?
Zeb,
Zeb

Thank you Steve. I
I'll stay tuned on this same channel.

My God Zeb,

what I would give for that helmet!
If you ever think about sending it on a journey, it would be welcome back here in its old home!
I am always completely blown away when you present exhibits from your collection!
🤩
We can start with the Mod. 1870 helmet for an EM in the 19th Dragoner Regiment - 1th Eskadron
Best regards
Frank
