Thanks ,Yes the owner took good care of it , not a single ding, and these helmets are lightweights, it's easy to get a dent.

Thank you for the reminder, but I should clarify the intent of my original comment. At the time, I hadn't distinguished between helmets used by officers and those for enlisted soldiers. Upon seeing the helmet for enlisted soldiers and the limited description, I replied without thorough consideration.

There was a shortage of helmets, but the US army found an unused stock to bring home…strange.
Perhaps these helmets were finished while the steel helmet made them obsolete.

Its my understanding that even as late as 1917, the Germans had been producing small numbers of and stockpiling spiked helmets for parade use after the war. This could explain those stores of helmets.
