Hello Marty, Re 23 April 1918 the memorial to the Royal Marines is superb giving a full account of the raid and those involved. The nearby church had some really interesting memorials to both German & British servicemen. The Lock gates and canal were of interest to me from Zeebrugge to Bruges...
Hello Marty
A nice collection, prior to Covid I worked on the P&O Ferries from UK (Hull) to Zeebrugge. Your town & chocolate are both very nice. I never found anything for my collection but there are some very stunning memorials around Zeebrugge.
Steve
Thankyou for the welcome greeting. After obtaining my 'prize possession' my hobby interests changed to British medals as they are researchable. I did still find the odd helmet, clearly there is a lot of knowledge on this site and I will have more questions to ask. Regards
Re visor lining, all I can think of is that as this was a private purchase item for officers perhaps the cost would come into it. My only regret at the time was not enquiring if he (the dealer) had the spike. We learn by experience.
When I purchased this helmet I had a couple of Pickelhaubes nothing to special and then I came across this, back in the 1980's there were not so many detailed books on the subject and I certainly didn't have a computer (or a wife & children!!!). The helmet is stamped inside C F Junker 1913...
Yes I did have a look at the online catalogue as well as the Guard du Korps helmet there were a couple of other items I was curious about an Austrian medal and a French helmet. Steve
Many thanks Steve, proper Old School type ! that explains maybe why I could not fine him on Saleroom.com that a lot of UK & European auctioneers use. Regards Steve
