I've got a rolled edge felt Prussian Pickelhaube, equipped with M95 brass fittings, wappen and a black liner. What colour should the chin strap be on these helmets? Mine is missing and I'd be content buying a reproduction chin strap. On this note, who is the go to nowadays for repro chin...

Mine has the same black liner, with no embossed J. Bambus marking, so that makes two.

I will take some pictures of the side posts from the interior of the helmet and post them. But, from having looked at them on multiple occassions, I am positive they have never been tampered with.

Anyone care to offer an opinion?

Regarding the variations in leather chin straps, when were the plain brown leather chins traps introduced and on which Pickelhaube were they generally found? Was the un-dyed leather simply a cost and time saving measure as the war progressed?

Your comments have echoed what I have seen or thought based upon the information I have at this point. I am going to view the helmet this week to view it in person and study I more closely. Regarding the "collectors budget", this helmet could possibly be the first Pickelhaube in my Militaria...
