    Happy birthday K-B

    Otto, Gsu, and James, Thanks for the birthday wishes! A photo of the collector as a (very) young man: Skøl!

    Upgrading Kürassier Helmets

    Nice article, Joe! No stones, just a pebble: Didn't you post a picture a while back of a group of OYV's, two of which were NCO's? Just trying to keep you on your toes. :wink:

    My latest treasure

    Congratulations, James! I was sorely tempted by this one. Glad you got it. Cheers,

    The Garnitur System

    Great photos, Joe! I'm with Otto: I wish I could "walk into" them and walk out with my arms full. :D I suspect that the garnitur system fell into disuse upon mobilization. It seems to me an economy measure to get the most wear out of the uniforms during peacetime. I wish there was more info...

    About fakes...

    Thanks, Bruno! There is a lot of information in foreign-language sources that needs to be made available to English-speaking collectors. Good work!

    Truth well told, Chas!

    The Garnitur System

    Hello All, I just read Tony's post on Pickelhaube issue dates, and it prompted me to finish translating an article I found on a German web site and have been meaning to post for some time. It complements Tony's comments and thoughts. The original can be viewed at...

    Original or fake?

    Otto, The chinstrap looks like a repro to me, too. Cheers,

    Enlisted Model 1871

    Thanks for the compliment, Paul! No, I didn't make the stand. I'll tell you a deep, dark secret: it's a candlestick. I was faced with the problem we all face, i.e., how to display my helmets so their weight would not rest on the visors. And I wanted something that was readily available and...

    Enlisted Model 1871

    Hello Brian, I tried to give the spike a twist, but no go. Thanks for posting pics of your 1871 Grenadier. It's a beauty! Thanks for the photo and reference, Tony. Sounds like a book I need to add to my library. Cheers,

    The Power of Makeup (deleted)

    Gus, I didn't mean to make a political statement, but I can see how it could be interpreted as such. I'll delete it. Thanks for pointing it out to me,

    T.B. = Telegraph Battailon ?

    Good catch, Joe. I must be getting old. Yes, the corps and battalion number should coincide. :oops:

    T.B. = Telegraph Battailon ?

    I agree with Reservist1: 8th Train Battalion. Ehrenbreitstein is a fortress overlooking the city of Koblenz, just above the spot where the Rhine and Mosel rivers converge. Any pictures, Robert? Skøl!

    Re-examining M1895 Wappen Loops.

    Tony, This is the type of detective work that helps us all as collectors. It is a great addition to the knowledge-base being built here. My hat's off to you!
