Jan 1st Ulanen update: Garde Ulanen Regt. Nr. 2.

Tony, this makes for a good start to the New Year.

Eh? Why did this close at only $910???

I think the rather tepid response to this pick is the calendar; he started a five day auction on 12/22 to end on 12/27. My experiance has been that this week, Thanksgiving (US) week and Independance Day are the three best bargain periods for Ebay buyers.

    Look what Santa brought me!

Tony, such a Christmas present; you must have been a very good boy.

Bavarian One Year Vol. 2nd Ulan (see Tony, without ) Tschapka

A Tsapka for the 2nd Bavarian Ulanen from Ansbach has been at the top of my list for some years. I used to serve beer in one of their former Kantines at the Kaserne in Ansbach. I shall be hard-on this one.

    M15 Mystery

Spike's observation is quite correct if we accept that Bekleidungsamt were kept in tight correlation to the Corps command structure which I have always questioned. In looking at the battle history of this regiment it is stated that recruiting from XXI Corps area of Alsace Lorraine became...

    My latest treasure

James, what a superb Tsapka. I now feel certain that the 1915 model Ulan Garde eagles were never mounted with stars. Is there a chance that you could do a full scan of the War Bond flier that we might be able to lift for reference?

    Help!

Otto, the monogram topped with the odd crown is exactly like one I have seen on the chamber of a presentation grade model 1900 Parabellum (Luger). As I recall that pistol was a gift to a South American of some importance.

Another busby but this one is .....

Before putting it on the "rebigulator", how 'bout putting it on a nude Barbie doll? Oh yes, then give her a pair of boots and a whip. Maybe some chains...

    Minidoka Concentration Camp

Gus, The "Japanese" put in the camps were either enemy aliens or Americans of Japanese descent. The latter were only those who lived on the West coast and were perceived as being a potential threat to US security. Those put in the camps were given quarters that permitted them to maintain...

    Minidoka Concentration Camp

Minidoka was not a concentration camp. Auschwitz was a concentration camp.

Does anyone have an issued Saxon Tschapka?

Tony, I have a M1915 Tsapka with Saxon Wappen but I fear it may be a later addition as there are, what appear to be, faint traces of a Prussian Wappen on the face of the skull. I will investigate further and take measurements if you wish.

    Jager zu Pferd officer

Am I correct in that the "tail" on the JzP officer's helmet conforms to the more common Kur. type while the visor follows the JzP form? Charles, this collection is not just the cat's meow as you state but also, as we say in the Valley, the cat's ass!

    "Original"

The star seems to be about 30% too large when compared to one that I have and the liner does not conform to the liners in my model 1915 Tsapkas. I also question whether one should expect to find a star on a 1915 Garde Tsapka. gsm7, the purpose of the forum is to provide a place for the...

The continuing saga of landsturm headgear

Judging by the baton in his hands, he is the bandmaster. Is the sash part of his designation as such? Note that he does not have swallows nests.

    Victorian tankard

Otto, It is a super tankard, incredible that the Brits would actually drink warm beer out of such a thing. The guy on top is not an Uhlan but rather St George, patron saint of England. As for the battle scene, it's hard to say other than that the fellows getting the worst of it are almost...

This comes from a picture of a bunch of schutztruppen

Well shucks Joe, I blew my chance at being a detective. The spruce in the background certainly throw Africa out of the picture as well as the Pacific islands. It's not likely Tsingtao and sure seems to be a reunion post WWI as you first surmised. So my second wild-ass guess is that they are...

Joe, Your Photo of The Germans and Russkis

Joe and all, I just received my set of the "First World War". Its a British production of 503 minutes and has some of the most "kick-ass" footage of the first war that I have ever seen. In the episode dealing with "revolution" it has a clip of the Russo-German armistice of 1917. Some of the...

Joe, Your Photo of The Germans and Russkis

Joe, back before the "crash" you posted a photo or two of a group of soldiers who appeared to be Germans and Russians. There was some speculation as to the time frame of the photo and the occaision that would warrent such unlikely comradery. I may have found the answer, can you repost?
