    dragoon helmet

I emailed the seller and asked if these were from the collection of the late LTC Dave Smith. His response was that the estate did not give him liberty to disclose that. Dave was an avid collector but openly admitted to making helmets that he believed he could never afford. He had quite a few...

    SOS 2010

Joe, best of luck in trying to coordinate table locatios. Dealing with the promoters of this show is like dealing with the DMV. Two of my mates and I have had tables seperated by mere feet for years and we can not get them to switch us around with anyone. The best bet is for us to ask for six...

Brad, they all show indications of Dave's work, relacquered original skulls, repro Wappen, mixed parts. He would make helmets he could never afford from parts. He often used fireman helmet skulls to start from. They were made for his own pleasure never for sale.

    Need Info on Garde Shako

I revisited it today and studied the vents more carefully. They are probably correct. It is a good officer type with only the leather of the liner remaining, good tight visors and fixtures, repro leather chin strap and cockades. I reexamined the interior and found two plugged holes in the front...

Brad, I strongly suspect that these three may have been from the collection of a now deceased mutual friend of ours. I base this suspicion upon the method of recreation as well as the address of the seller.

    Need Info on Garde Shako

At a regional militaria show today I looked at an interesting officers type shako. It bore a very large Garde star as one would expect to encouner on a Garde Lobster Tail. Small loops and leather tabs secured it through the only two grommeted holes through the Shako. It also had interesting vent...

Prussian Ranklist Help Needed to ID Unit of Named Helmet.

Of all of the gents named Ewald none matches up to your search exactly. There was, however, one reservist officer in the Landwehrbezirk I in Berlin. He might be your man.

    Prussian Cavalry Lance

Heading out to the SOS tomorrow and I will be carrying with me an original lance that I don't want to bring back. The bad news is its condition: Chrome plated, original grip material is gone, lance has been cut in two and refitted with threaded inner sleeve so that it can be dismounted. Good...

high price for M15 that's been through the mill

I would say that Brad, as am I, is puzzled at a bid of $482 fror brass spike, trim, plate and chin strap. The shell certainly can't have any value.

    shotgun??

The fellow appears to be either a Bavarian Uhlan or Chevauleger. Given the mud and thatch dwelling it appears that he is in the East which would make sense for cavalry for widely used in that theatre. Given the pipe and shotgun he is obviously in the rear someplace where a little recreational...
