Tony, Very interesting. It's amazing the amount of thought that went into the design of a simple leather helmet. Brad, "88 helmets" !!!!!!!! My wife would kill me. :( But I can see how it could easily grow to that. Please post pictures wen everything is displayed. I would love to see them.

The "extra hole under the rear spine", do you mean the one right behind the reinforcement plate in your photo? Yes --that's the one. After looking at it, I am guessing that because it is located under the spine shutter that this is a ventilation hole and not an extra hole. Is that right ...

What really caught my attention on this one was the incredible detail of the wappen with just enough patina to give it some character. [/img]

The liner is still there but VERY fragile. The only markings I can find is a 25? in ink on the rear visor. It could be just 25 but it almost looks like a 252, 253, 258 or 259. really hard to tell. markings [/img]

    My first pickelhaube

Here is my first :D It is a very common piece and unnoteworthy when compared to most the picks posted here but it is my first. I did clean it using just Ivory soap on a damp cotton rag. I did not polish any of the fittings. This thing came stinking badly of smoke. It smelled BAD. The body...

    How does this happen?

That is a term I have not heard before. I am guessing that is the little adjustable do-dad on the rear spine? Greg BTW--It did not sell.

    My first Pickelhaube, 1976.

Everyone has to start somewhere--------at least that is what I am hoping :D I know that $175 seems like a very cheap price to pay for a helmet. In 1976 I was 20 years old and working as a mechanic at a Pontiac dealership. $175 was more than a full weaks take home pay.

Welcome aboard Robert. The amount of helmet knowledge on the forum is astounding. In the short time I have been here I have learned alot. If you have a M1911A1 that you don't know what to do with, I'm looking. :D Greg

    Fake wappen ????????

This helmet has a Prussian wappen with outstanding detail. But the detail looks a little to good when compared to the rest of the helmet...

    Suspicion

I am just a rookie here so when I look at helmets on ebay, one of the indicators I use is the "number of bids, amount of bids vs. time left" gut check. These are very nice looking helmets. There is only 5 days left and the price is still really low for such pretty helmets------------------...
