Ok guys one quick question...... The Hessen 115 that you speak of had all silvered fittings. It appears that the star and attached motto on Frysztak's example is brass?? I am not sure about the material "alpaca"
What about Hessen Field artillery #25????? The fittings on this helmet were...
Hi Chas and all
Bruno's 109 is a hard to beat example of an issued helmet but Tony's M1842 is probably the rarest issued helmet yet!!!! http://pickelhaubes.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1796 Bill
Rod,
I would agree with Joe that the best quality helmets came from Bavaria. This seemed to hold true even during the war years when supplies were short. You can find superior quality helmets from any state so each helmet should be evaluated on its own merit.
I would also agree with Joe...
The "Kaiserzeit" was started in 1972. Chip Minx was one of the founding fathers. Origionally it was published six times a year for the first three years. It then changed to a quarterly format. I know that the journal was still around in 1982. Joe or Chip may have more to add. If anyone finds...
Chas,
I just returned from a local gun show where a dealer had a nice display of Imperial filght badges. Thanks to your discussion I was able to determine that they were all fake. I'm not even sure that the dealer realized that they were bad. Thanks for the lesson. Bill
The Verdienst Kreuz fur Frauen und Jungfrauen truly is a rare and brautiful medal. Congratulations to both of you.
When we are talking about medals the terms glass and enamel are synonymous. Bill
Gee... the one from Hermann Historica sold for 12,000 euro + commission+the exchange rate. I should use the buy it now option for $6,400 and save a ton of money!!!!!!! Bill
"Do you know there was an exceptional helmet auction in Paris two weeks ago?" Noooooooo!!!!!! The story of my life.. a day late and a dollar short. Can you tell me who conducted the auction? Thanks. Bill
Hi Bruno,
The helmet that I saw at the SOS was a wonderful example of an Officer's helmet from IR94. The helmet seemed right in every way until you removed the plate and looked on the back. Immediately you could see that it was a galvano copy. It turned up next in the Kube auction (Spring...
This does not appear to be the same helmet that we saw at the SOS in Feb. Any thoughts ???? Bill http://cgi.ebay.de/original-Offizier-Pickelhaube-Sachsen-Gotha-gewoelbt_W0QQitemZ220039254475QQihZ012QQcategoryZ34649QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

Bruno, Dave
Thank you Joe for posting the two pictures. The picture of the Lippe helmet that Joe posted has quality that you would expect of a Flugeladjutanten. Note the silver star studs. The motto is not shown but reads Fuerst. The people at the Lippisches Landes-museum told me that they...
Bruno,
Larcade describes the pre 1912 helmet having the Koenig motto with the Dragoon eagle. He goes on to describe the changes after 1912.... replacing the Dragoon eagle with the Garde eagle but makes no comment as to the motto. Hilsenbeck in "Deutsche Offizierhelme aus der Kaiserzeit"...
Just to add my two cents worth...... I must agree with Dave that this is a made up helmet. I had this helmet in my possession a couple of years ago and went through all sorts of hoops to get my money back. I went so far as to contact the Lippe museum to support my claim. Unfortunately most of...
